Exploring Greece: A Recap of Our Small Group Adventure

Greetings, Wanderers!

It took nearly two weeks, but I’m back from Greece and ready to give you the low-down on everything from our first group trip! A HUGE thank you to everyone who joined me on our recent adventure through Greece! This small group trip was one for the books, from the ancient wonders of Athens to the stunning island landscapes. Here’s a quick look at where we went, what we did, and how we made lasting memories together. Plus, I’m excited to announce the possibility of future trips to Scotland or Italy—keep reading for more details!

Our journey, called Highlights of the Greek Islands, began with everyone arriving in Athens at their own pace, allowing time to explore the city independently. One special group activity was a private sunset trip to Cape Sounion, where we visited the breathtaking Temple of Poseidon, built around 444–440 BC. Afterward, we enjoyed a traditional Greek dinner at a local tavern and ended the evening with gelato.

Our official tour kicked off on Friday when we met our G Adventures CEO (Chief Experience Officer), Stelios, a native Athenian. His excellent insights into Greek culture and history added so much depth to our experience throughout the trip!

Memory: We toasted (Yamas! in Greek) our first night together with cocktails overlooking the Acropolis.

Tinos

Tinos was our next stop where we were greeted by a local for a tour of the island’s small marble villages that it is known for. It also has a strong religious presence, so we made sure to visit the famous Panagia Evangelistria church and artisan workshops nearby. G Adventures really took us off the beaten path with this one - it was a true surprise and delight for all of us. It was less touristy and crowded with quaint towns and beautiful beaches. I’m not the only one who already said they can’t wait to go back! Bonus, our CEO surprised one of our members with a birthday cake.

Memory: Stelios also arranged a wine tasting for some of the group at a local winery. It took place on top of a mountain (literally). While driving there, our driver pointed out that it was a “great day for the atmosphere” and pointed out about 15 islands that could be seen around us.

Mykonos

While in Tinos, a day trip to Mykonos was on the agenda. Our CEO helped us navigate the island in style, balancing time for sightseeing with relaxation. We strolled through the picturesque streets of Little Venice, admired the famous windmills, and found some peaceful corners of the island to soak up the view.

Memory: Soaking up those crystal clear Aegean waters for the first time with the group!

Naxos

Naxos, the largest island in the Cyclades, was a blend of natural beauty and historical richness. We wandered through its charming port town, visited the Temple of Apollo, and spent time on its pristine beaches. Naxos offered something for everyone, from cultural experiences to outdoor adventures. We hit up a 4th generation distillery to try some of the island’s famous Kitron (a citrus liquor).

Memory: One of our members found an Olive Oil Museum locally run on the island. We headed over as a group for a tour of the process with a tasting afterward. We sampled all sorts of olives, oils, breads, and more!

Santorini

No trip to Greece is complete without Santorini. We arrived and hiked the iconic Fira to Oia trail leading to Oia for the ultimate sunset. Gyros were demolished upon arrival for dinner! Santorini was the perfect grand finale to our trip, offering incredible views and unforgettable memories. Half of our members stayed on for a day exploring the island's towns, getting tattoos (you heard that right!), and getting proposed to— RIGHT!? Stunning. Speechless. That’s all - what more is there to say?

Memory: Reaching the peak of the hike with old friends and new friends we made along the way.

Why We Loved Traveling with G Adventures

I can’t say enough good things about G Adventures. They specialize in community-led tourism, and our experience was fantastic. The guides were incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and best of all, local. Our CEO was always ahead of the game, making the itinerary flow seamlessly.

If you're looking for a small group trip (8-16 people), this is the way to go. Whether you have questions, need help picking an itinerary, or want to plan a private group trip, let’s chat! With guaranteed departures and the option to make it private with only 8 people, you and a few friends could be exploring with a local guide.

We had the perfect balance of structured activities and free time—yes, I spent most of mine relaxing on the beach!

After such an incredible time in Greece, I’m already thinking about where to take a small group next. Scotland and Italy are at the top of my list for 2025. If you’re interested in exploring with me, whether it's the rolling hills of Scotland or the stunning coastline of Italy, let me know!
