Exploring Scotland: Top Destinations for Every Traveler

Greetings, Wanderers!

With several of my clients exploring Scotland this summer and fall, I’m absolutely loving all the Scottish vibes. I recently revisited my photos from my trip in 2022, and wow, do I miss those Highland mountains (and the adorable Highland cows!). The people are genuine, the food is delicious, and the views are breathtaking. Whenever I sit down with clients, I always get to the root of what inspired them to visit the destination. For Scotland, is it the history, landscapes, castles—a mix of city and mountains? From there, we draft a short list of locations that might be a perfect fit. However, if you are completely lost, here is a quick list of spots I've loved during my own travels, and something to do at each!

Here are some of my top recommendations for must-visit spots in Scotland:

  1. Edinburgh - Rich in history and culture, Edinburgh offers a perfect blend of ancient charm and modern vibrancy.

    1. Mix a walking tour with a whiskey tasting for the best of both worlds. You’ll get the lay of the land, some nice refreshments, and can ask a local for recommendations!

  2. Loch Lomond - A serene escape with stunning landscapes, perfect for a peaceful retreat or outdoor adventures.

    1. A must-do includes a scenic cruise of the Loch. You can then explore the quaint town of Luss before or after.

  3. The Isle of Skye - Known for its dramatic scenery, Skye is a paradise for photographers and nature lovers alike.

    1. Get out in nature here! You’ll find the famous Fairy Pools and Fairy Gardens on the Isle. Nearby is Eileen Donan Castle - a must-see site for many.

  4. Inverness - The gateway to the Highlands, Inverness is steeped in history and offers easy access to nearby attractions like Loch Ness and Culloden Battlefield.

    1. Near Culloden Battlefield, you’ll find The Clava Cairns, a fun rock formation that might just take you back to the 18th century (no guarantees!)

  5. Glen Coe - A hiker's dream with breathtaking glens and peaks makes it a must-see for outdoor enthusiasts.

    1. Hike along the West Highland Way for a while or visit the nearby Glenfinnan Viaduct to watch the famous train pass by.

  6. Glasgow - A dynamic city known for its vibrant arts scene, stunning architecture, and welcoming spirit.

Scotland is a land of endless discoveries, where every turn offers something new to marvel at. Whether you're drawn to the ancient castles, the rolling hills, or the vibrant cities, there’s a piece of Scotland waiting for you. I hope this list sparks your wanderlust and helps you dream of a journey that’s as unforgettable as the country itself.
