Supporting a Great Cause: Planeterra!

Greetings, Wanderers!

Have you ever asked your tour guide a question—maybe even just a simple “Where are we?”—and they had no idea? I have. I often tell people I’ve made a lot of mistakes so they don’t have to, and this is one of them.

In 2017, I took a month-long journey through Europe, visiting the major sites of London, Paris, and Rome. My tour guide, a lovely Australian woman, had just received her visa to travel and work throughout Europe. Now, I’m not here to completely hate on her—she was knowledgeable in some ways. But when it came to anything specific about the destination or the experience, she was at a loss. Why? Maybe because she wasn’t from France. No one knows France like the French. Seems obvious, right?

Time and time again, I hear my clients say they’re looking for authentic experiences with locals—experiences they’ll remember for a lifetime. We want to get our hands dirty, to truly be a part of something.

Last September, I took a small group of friends to Greece on our first escorted group trip with G Adventures. We had our trusty sidekick, Stelios, with us the entire time—an incredible guide from Athens. He pointed out the best restaurants, explained why things are the way they are, and could describe just about every aspect of Greece and Greek culture. The knowledge we took home with us was immeasurable. He and our driver even snuck some local grapes from a farm one day after a conversation about local produce (shhh—you didn’t hear that from me) so we could taste them straight from the vine.

Which of these stories sounds better to you? The Greece one, right? That’s why, I’m excited to share a cause that’s close to my heart. G Adventures partners with an incredible organization called Planeterra, which is dedicated to using travel as a force for good. This year, for their annual Changemakers initiative, I’ve set a fundraising goal of $1,000—and I’d love your support in making a real impact!

Why Planeterra?

Tourism is an industry worth $8 trillion, yet many communities see little to no benefit from it. Planeterra is changing that by partnering with local enterprises, breaking the cycle of poverty, and ensuring that travel dollars directly support the people at the heart of each destination.

Founded in 2003 by Bruce Poon Tip, Planeterra has spent two decades proving that ethical, community-driven travel isn’t just possible—it’s the future. By donating, you’re helping create opportunities for local businesses and ensuring tourism benefits the people who need it most.

How You Can Help

Giving is quick, secure, and impactful. If this mission resonates with you, please consider making a contribution—big or small, every dollar makes a difference. And if you’re unable to donate, sharing this email with others who might be interested is another great way to support!

Thank you for being part of this journey and for helping make travel a true force for good!

Cheers,

Hannah

P.S. If small-group tours led by locals and hands-on experiences speak to you, reach out! I’d love to share some amazing G Adventures options so you can dive in and experience it all for yourself.
