Back from Punta Cana: Exploring Resorts and More!

Greetings, Wanderers!

I recently returned from a wonderful trip to Punta Cana! Last year, I got a small taste of Puerto Plata during a Virgin Voyages cruise stop, and this year, I jumped at the opportunity to explore Punta Cana with a group of fellow travel advisors. Over four packed days, 10 of us toured stunning resorts, learned about the unique features of different properties, and immersed ourselves in the local culture through a memorable guided tour.

Resorts for Every Traveler

For Families:
Dreams Royal Beach was a standout! Several of my clients have stayed here and raved about it, so I was thrilled to meet one of the managers and see it in person. The resort is stunning, with beautiful grounds, peaceful pool areas, and plenty of entertainment options. It’s the kind of place I can easily picture some of you enjoying with your loved ones.

For Couples:
Secrets Cap Cana and Secrets Royal Beach are perfect for a romantic getaway. Secrets Cap Cana is the Dominican Republic’s only 5-diamond resort, and it’s easy to see why. From eco-friendly touches like reusable hand towels to luxurious amenities like butler service and swim-out pools, every detail is designed for a truly special experience. And don’t forget the iconic Secrets Box for room service—it’s those little extras that make all the difference.

Don’t forget - using a Travel Advisor can sometimes provide extra perks and amenities, and makes the process oh so much easier!

Beyond the Resorts: Embracing Dominican Culture

Our cultural tour with the Bavaro Runners was a true highlight of the trip. Guided by Angel and Pina, we explored local villages, watched cigars being rolled, sampled fresh sugar cane, and tasted locally made wine. We ended the day at Maria’s home, where she and her daughters showed us how they produce coffee and chocolate directly from the plants on their farm. Getting to sample the results was, of course, the best part! It was heartwarming to bring school supplies for the local children, adding a meaningful touch to an already incredible experience. If you visit Punta Cana—or anywhere, really—I highly recommend including a cultural tour to truly connect with the destination.

Insider Tips for All-Inclusive Travel

This trip marked my first stay at an all-inclusive resort, and I walked away with some important insights:

  • Choose quality over quantity. A great all-inclusive experience is about more than unlimited food and drinks; it’s about thoughtful service, well-maintained facilities, and memorable experiences.

  • Invest in upgrades. Whether it’s a swim-out suite or a property with extra perks, spending a little more often leads to a significantly better experience.

  • Do your homework (or let me!). Not all all-inclusives are created equal, and understanding the differences between properties is key to finding the one that’s perfect for you.

Packing Tips for All-Inclusive Resorts

  • A mix of attire - you never know what the day will bring. You’ll want to dress up a little for dinner reservations

  • Beach clips - help you easily find your chairs

  • Excursion wear - you might not have one booked upon arrival, but you never know what the week might bring

  • Beach Tote - It’s not just about the pools

  • Floaties - fun for private pools and some public ones (if your resort allows, I saw multiple during my stay!)

  • Bug Spray - The Caribbean is humid and buggy! A good resort will spray and have an action plan, but better to be safe than sorry

  • Cash for tips - small bills for drivers, bellboys, butlers, and exceptional dining service

  • Hydration Packets - no explanation needed!

Final Thoughts

Punta Cana is more than just a resort destination—it’s a place where luxury and culture blend beautifully. Whether you’re planning a family vacation, a romantic escape, or an adventure with friends, there’s something here for everyone.

If you’re ready to start dreaming about your next trip, I’d love to help you find the perfect destination and experience.
